Student paintings!

Fall is here too soon but beautiful!

Spent the weekend of Oct. 8th painting in Leelanau, Glen Arbor area with pastels and the Great Lakes Pastel Society.   This is the "Big Tree" at Fountain Point Resort, couldn't ask for a more beautiful weekend.

more student paintings

Terry did a wonderful painting of the round Island Lighthouse.

paintings from my students!

Student work by Bill when we were working on our paintings of a cow.

painting mackinac with a palette knife

Working today with my students in acrylic to paint with a palette knife.  This definately keeps you more loose  with the application of paint.  This is the Round Island lighthouse at Mackinac Island.   I'm going to show there paintings sometime soon also.

Mackinac Island Here i come!

when I saw these two men raising the United States flag on the porch of the Grand Hotel, I felt I had to paint and give tribute to the history and service of Jamaican workers on the Island.   This painting will be at the Manoogian Museum all summer. I'm taking it there tomorrow.

Time for Peonies!

Starting a painting of peonies, sketched in the main shapes and painting in oil.  keeping lights cool

Pretty much finished the painting, wasn't as successful with the tablecloth but overall I really like it.   Now onto lilacs.

abandoned

finished our lesson, looks more like a prairie painting than a Michigan painting. We will continue to explore lost and found edges, I feel that along with squinting , the edges are most important in painting.

Lessons in landscape painting

we started a simple landscape painting in my Thursday AM class to demonstrate some principles used.   The sky is usually your lightest area with the ground being about a medium value and buildings being darker.   I am using acrylic and putting in darker tones under neath the grass, we are also exploring lost and found, hard and soft edges which is so important with painting. "What do you want from me"

We pretty much finished our cow painting in my painting class today.   Cows,  just there for us I guess, to eat their meat and drink their milk.    Really enjoyed teaching the class and doing this painting.
